CoWork in A/C Comfort @ The Works

The Works top floor has undergone an amazing transformation this Summer, with comfort, security and sharpness being at the top of the priority list. The result: the inner west's freshest creative coworking space.

Coworking at The Works

We now have 10 desks ready for new creative tennants and companies to base themselves from. $110 per desk per week includes everything you need to hit the ground running... hard core internet, 7 day access, your own dedicated desk, a locker to leave your valuables and a bunch of excellent, talented tenants to work alongside.

Ready to Roll

If you're more of a casual worker or just starting out on your venture you could buy a 10 visit pass for $250 to use within your first month and see how The Works works 4 U.

Casual Desks

We think the new space would suit graphic designers, copy writers, video editors, book keepers, distributors, touring companies, startups, post grad students, illustrators, etc.

Currently there is a campervan booking website, a music/entertainment agency, a coconut milk ice cream distributor, 2 graphic designers and an event organiser...

A good coworking space is all about the mix of tenants. Not just their skillset but also their outlook and mindset. It's a weird science and something we look forward to evolving!

Postcards from Aloysius

CMS added image

This month, The Works Glebe is proud to introduce our latest label to join our ever-expanding group of local talent- Postcards from Aloysius.

Postcards from Aloysius is a Bondi-based jewellery label that celebrates the humble postage stamp. The creator, Helen Hadfield, is a designer, a self-confessed philatelist and a lover for all things colourful, historical and illustrative. She creates jewels out of new and used postage stamps from around the world. The context of the stamps are documented in each unique piece of jewellery, with a typed description done on typewriter telling the receiver the country of origin, the year of issue and depiction of the art work.

CMS added image

Helen says of her work, "Stamp collecting used to be the largest hobby in the world, with fellow philatelists including John Lennon, Queen Elizabeth II and Charlie Chaplin (all of which have featured on a Postcards from Aloysius jewel or two!). I frequently have people visit my market stall at Glebe and either tell me about the collection they've inherited or, whispering as not to be heard by too many passers by, that they too are an enthused philatelist. This always makes me smile, like they are sharing a secret with me that their friends do not know."

The best part of the job? "My favourite part of what I do is creating commission jewels for individuals. There is a stamp for everybody, and with an archive of around 50,000 I have plenty to choose from with any subject you can think of. I love a challenge."

To get in contact with Helen and Postcards from Aloysius check out their website www.postcardsfromaloysius.com or connect with them on Facebook

DIY Bottle Lamp Workshop- 2nd Round

CMS added image

This week we had our second installment of the Make your own bottle lamp workshop. Juan from Mas des Treflel and Stewart from Australian Home Living lead the group through first learning how to make a pattern and cover a lampshade, before embarking on the electrical side of wiring up a lamp correctly.

This time we were able to provide a variety of bottles with young Mr. Falcon's in Glebe providing us with a collection of Kraken Rum bottles and Young Henry's providing us with their 2lt growlers and some limited edition 1lt bottles from a beer specially made for the band You am I - called Brew Am I. Plus they suck us a few bottles for a cheeky afternoon beer!

We think the results were fantastic. It was great to host such a lovely group at The Works on a sunny afternoon in Glebe.

Jacque Fresco the Futurist

CMS added image

We here at The Works are fascinated by anyone weird and wonderful, and this man has been labeled a positive crackpot. He has also been called a utopian, a charlatan, an idealist and a genius. Jacque Fresco is a self-taught industrial designer who has liaised and worked with the likes of Albert Einstein himself. He is noted for designing futuristic cityscapes; homes, automobiles and gadgets, which have a Jetson-esque feel to them. For example homes that are all pre-designed, built and simply lowered into place upon selection from a catalogue.

CMS added image

His aim is to work toward restructuring a sustainable society that is mirrored in his 21-acre lot in central Florida called The Venus Project. It is home to many of his architectural creations. This resource-based economic vision is often criticised as being similar in notion to Marxian, Communist or Fascist ideals. Either way, the man certainly has style! His designs and ideas as so far out, they are bordering on science fiction. They have been used in collaboration with the animators of Star Trek. Whichever way you slice it, his quirkiness and vision are definitely inspiring.

CMS added image

If you're feeling inspired you can get your own little slice of the future with our retro side tables from Australian Home Living, ranging from $290 - 490.
